Three USM Board of Regents Committees to Meet on February 4


Baltimore, Md. (Feb. 2, 2021) – Three committees of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet on Thursday, February 4.

The Committee on Governance & Compensation will meet at 8:30 a.m. Access to the meeting is via the following dial-in information:

The committee will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. Those items are an update on status of collective bargaining negotiations at USM institutions; an administrative matter regarding proposed legislation; and specific personnel contracts at a USM institution.

The committee will hear several information items. These items include an update on the fiscal year (FY) 2022 operating budget; presentation of FY 2020 audited financial statements and USM financial planning; and FY 2020 effectiveness and efficiency results.

The committee also will hear a review of capital improvement projects and a report on FY 2020 procurement contracts.

The first item will feature the Philip E. and Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation Shore Hatchery Program at Salisbury University (SU), a $2 million, 10-year initiative to assist entrepreneurs and help them create new ventures and jobs in the community. Christy Weer (Dean, Perdue School of Business) and William Burke (SU Director for Economic Development) will discuss this initiative and present a panel of selected winners from the most recent business plan competition.

The committee also will hear an update on Bowie State University (BSU) workforce development and industry partnerships (Lethia Jackson, Chair of the BSU Department of Technology & Security). USM Vice Chancellor Tom Sadowski will provide updates on USM Office of Economic Development activities, including the COVID-19 Task Force, legislative updates, and the Maryland Momentum Fund.
