Three USM Board of Regents Committees to Meet on June 10

Baltimore, Md. (June 8, 2021) – Three committees of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet on Thursday, June 10.

The Committee on Governance & Compensation will meet at 8:30 a.m. Access to the meeting is via the following dial-in information:

The committee will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. Those items are personnel reviews of senior USM staff; a discussion of the chancellor’s and presidents’ compensation; a review of specific personnel contracts that are subject to review under BOR Policy VII-10.0; ratification of collective bargaining MOUs (memorandum of understanding) at two institutions; and an update on status of collective bargaining at USM institutions.

The committee is scheduled to reconvene in public session at 10 a.m. and will vote on bylaws for the Universities at Shady Grove Board of Advisors.

The committee will vote on several action items. These items include the fiscal year (FY) 2022 operating budget, the FY 2022 system-funded construction program request, and the 43rd bond resolution—auxiliary facility and tuition revenue bonds. Other action items include the facilities master plan for Bowie State University and the proposed FY 2022 contract between the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS).

The committee will vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. Those items are a real property acquisition in the City of College Park; awarding of new contracts for Human Capital Management and Enterprise Resource Planning Systems and their implementation; and the proposed FY 2023 capital budget submission and potential adjustments to the submission.

Tina C. Williams-Koroma, CEO of featured startup CyDeploy, will discuss the company. CyDeploy is a USM-affiliated startup that has developed a cybersecurity solution deploying security updates with greater frequency and confidence to customers. The company is participating in the Maryland New Venture Fellowship for Cybersecurity at bwtech@UMBC.

The committee will vote on approval of fund sources for the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) Discovery Fund and the UMB Baltimore Fund under USM Policy VIII-14.00, the Policy on Investments and Loans to Maryland-based Businesses that are Affiliated with USM Institutions. Universities at Shady Grove (USG) Executive Director Anne Khademian will offer a presentation regarding key objectives for USG in education and career pathway development, as well as research and workforce development, with a strategic focus on the life sciences. Finally, USM Vice Chancellor Tom Sadowski will provide updates on USM Office of Economic Development activities, including the COVID-19 Task Force, legislative updates, and the Maryland Momentum Fund.
