USM Board of Regents Meets on Friday, September 16

Baltimore, Md. (Sept. 14, 2022) – The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16.

The board will convene in the Atrium of the Stamp Student Union at the University of Maryland, College Park. Access to the meeting is via livestream at the following link: https://www.usmd.edu/regents/meetings/livestream.

The board will hold an educational forum, “The Power of Systems,” presented by Dr. Nancy Zimpher, Chancellor Emeritus of the State University of New York (SUNY) and Senior Fellow, National Association of System Heads.

The board will recognize the seven winners of the 2022 Regents Staff Awards. In addition to voting on several action items approved at prior committee meetings, the regents also will hear reports from the councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff, and students. The Board will also consider a revision to Towson University’s mission statement.

Members of the public who wish to comment during the public comment period of the meeting are asked to email their comments in advance of the meeting to the following email address: regents@usmd.edu.

In public session, the board will vote on a naming request from the University of Maryland, College Park. The final item of the public session will be a vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act.

Exempted items include various personnel matters and litigation; acquisition of real property in Towson; consideration of three honorific naming requests by three institutions to name buildings after individuals; discussion of emeritus status for a prior USM president; ratification of collective bargaining MOUs at two USM institutions; an information item regarding the Chancellor’s clinic privileges; and development of the fiscal year 2024 operating budget submission and potential adjustments to the submission.
