Three USM Board of Regents Committees to Meet on February 2

Baltimore, Md. (Jan. 31, 2023) – Three committees of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet on Thursday, Feb. 2.

The USM Board of Regents Committee on Governance & Compensation will meet at 8:30 a.m. Access to the meeting is via the following dial-in information:

The committee will vote on approval of minutes from the meeting on Dec. 7, 2022, and vote on a certification of committee charters for the Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization. The committee then will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act.

Those items are an update on the status of collective bargaining at USM institutions; an information update regarding specific personnel contracts that are subject to Board of Regents’ review; an update on a president’s board memberships; and an update on periodic reviews of two USM presidents.

The committee will hear an informational presentation on the facilities master plan for the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). The committee will vote on a repair to the roof of Davidge Hall on the UMB campus. The committee also will vote on a revision to the USM policy on business entities. Other items before the committee include updates on the fiscal year (FY) 2024 capital budget and the FY 2023 and FY 2024 operating budget.

The committee will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss two items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. Those items are the consideration of the awarding of new contracts for scientific supplies and equipment.

The Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization will meet at 12:30 p.m. Access to the meeting is via the following dial-in information:

The committee will hear highlights of recent research and economic development activity. There will be a presentation on a featured program, the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), a Department of Defense-University Affiliated Research Center based at the University of Maryland, College Park. Finally, the committee will hear an information item regarding current activities of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development.
