USM Board of Regents Meets on Friday, June 16
Baltimore, Md. (June 14, 2023) – The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet at 8 a.m. on Friday, June 16. The board will convene at Frostburg State University in the Lane Center, Room 133 A of Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall (ARMAH).

The board will briefly recognize the 12 winners of the Student Excellence Scholarships, who were honored at a private breakfast ceremony last month.
The board then will hold an educational forum regarding Chat GPT and Artificial Intelligence (AI), presented by Tim Finin, the Willard and Lillian Hackerman Chair in Engineering at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
The board will vote on several action items, including the fiscal year (FY) 2024 operating budget, the FY 2024 system-funded construction program request, the Frostburg State facilities master plan five-year update, and new academic programs at several institutions. The board also will vote on resolutions of appreciation for six regents whose service time is ending.
The board also will hear reports from the councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff, and students.

The final item of the public session will be a vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. Exempted items include naming requests by four institutions to name building after individuals; awarding of new contracts for software implementation services and maintenance of HVAC systems; meetings with two presidents as part of their performance reviews; FY2024 presidential compensation; annual reviews for the Chancellor, Chancellor’s direct reports, and presidents; and FY 2024 Chancellor’s compensation.
