The public session includes an action item to review Board of Regents policies and bylaws that pertain to the Committee on Audit’s charge.

The committee will also hear information items regarding the FY 2026 Audit Committee work plan, completed Office of Legislative Audit activity, and open action items from the prior meetings, including review of the USM Policy on conducting criminal background checks for new employees.

As its final item during the public session, the committee will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session. In closed session, the committee would consider items excluded or exempted in the Open Meetings Act from the requirement for public consideration.

Those items include discussion of personnel matters as these arise related to the closed session agenda; discussion of legal matters with the Counsel of the Higher Education Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General and receipt of legal advice; discussion of legislative audit matters that are confidential by statute as these are ongoing; discussion of investigative matters involving actual or potential criminal conduct that may lead to criminal prosecution; meeting separately with the independent auditor’s engagement partner and USM’s vice chancellor of accountability; discussion of IT security matters that pose vulnerabilities of networks, critical IT infrastructure, and information resources; and an update of the 2025 internal audit plan of activity.
