Board of Regents to Hold Annual Retreat at the Sheraton Columbia Hotel, September 15-16

ADELPHI, Md. (September 12, 2008) - The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will hold its annual retreat on Monday, September 15, and Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at the Sheraton Columbia Hotel, 10207 Wincopin Circle, Columbia, Maryland.

Monday's public sessions will be held from 8:30 a.m.-11:15 a.m. and 12:40 p.m.-5:20 p.m. The morning session will review:

  • USM's Strategic Plan Dashboard Assessments;
  • Demographic, economic, and fiscal trends affecting the system;
  • Chancellor William E. Kirwan's five key system-wide initiatives: closing the achievement gap; environmental sustainability; STEM and economic competitiveness; the Maryland Course Redesign Initiative; and USM's federated capital campaign;
  • FY 2010 operating budget development.

USM presidents will present their top institutional strategic objectives to the regents on Monday afternoon and on Tuesday morning, 8:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Background information and agendas will be available at the meeting.
