USM Board of Regents to Meet December 12 at Bowie State University

ADELPHI, Md. (December 8, 2008) - The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will convene on Friday, December 12, 2008, on the campus of Bowie State University n(BSU). The public meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Room 2202 of the university's Thurgood Marshall Library. An executive session of the board will follow after the conclusion of the public session.

Action items before the board include:

  • Amendment of Policy VII-2.10: Policy on Employment of Members of the Same Family; and Rescission of Policy II-5.00: Policy on Faculty Employment of Members of the Same Family;
  • University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute: 2007-2017 Master Plan Update:
  • Proposed FY 2009 Contract between the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and the University of Maryland Medical System Corporation;
  • University of Maryland, Baltimore: Renewal of System-wide Scientific Supplies Contract;
  • New Academic Program Proposals: B.S. in Bioinformatics at BSU and Masters in Law (LL.M.) at UMB.

In addition to reports from the councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff, and students, the board will receive a report from USM Chancellor William E. Kirwan as well as a report on the textbook affordability summit held November 25 at University of Maryland, College Park.
