USM Board of Regents to Honor Exceptional Faculty; Also to Act on Enrollment Projections, Room and Board Charges

ADELPHI, Md. (April 7, 2009)-The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its next meeting will confer Regents' Awards to 17 faculty members. The  public meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 am Friday, April 10, in the Albin O. Kuhn Library at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).

The awards are the highest honor presented by the Board of Regents to exemplary faculty members. Presented in four categories, the awards honor excellence in teaching; scholarship, research, or creative activities; public service; and mentoring.

In other business, the regents will consider proposals for a bachelor of science in computer information systems at Frostburg State University and for a master of arts in teaching English to speakers of other languages at UMBC.

Other action items include USM enrollment projections for 2009-2018 and room and board charges for FY 2010. In addition, the board is scheduled to take action on recommendations of the Report of the Task Force on Education of Maryland's African-American Males, a group co-chaired by USM Board Vice Chair Orlan Johnson and Dunbar Brooks, a Maryland State Board of Education member.

The board also will receive reports from USM Chancellor William E. Kirwan and from the councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff, and students.

Following the public meeting, the board will meet in executive session.
