USM Board of Regents to Announce Staff Awards, Act on Furlough Authorization Resolution; Also to Hold Discussion on Maryland Course Redesign
Adelphi, Md. (Sept. 15,
2009) - The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its
next meeting will honor the 2009 recipients of the Board of Regents Staff
Awards. The board also will consider a proposed resolution authorizing
furloughs and temporary salary reductions of USM employees. A recent state-wide
budget action includes a $26-million temporary salary reduction in fiscal year
2010 for USM employees, to be accomplished through a tiered furlough plan and
other salary adjustments.
The public session is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
Friday, September 18, in the Colony Ballroom of the Adele H. Stamp Student
Union at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Other action items before the board include:
Renovation improvements to the Burkshire
Marriott Conference Hotel at Towson
University;
Proposed amendment to a policy on student
classification for admission and tuition purposes.
In addition to reports from the councils of university
system presidents, faculty, staff, and students, the regents will participate
in a discussion forum on the Maryland Course Redesign Initiative. The
system-wide project facilitates the redesign of large-enrollment, multi-section
courses using technology-supported active learning strategies. Its goal is to
achieve improvements in learning outcomes and reductions in instructional
costs.
After the public meeting, the board will meet in executive
session.
