USM Regents Education Policy Committee Meets January 26

Adelphi, Md. (Jan. 21, 2011) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee on Education Policy at its next meeting will vote on several new academic program proposals and act on newly developed mission statements from USM institutions and regional centers.

The public meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 26, on the second floor (rooms 2100, 2102, 2104) of the University of Maryland University College Inn and Conference Center. The center is located at 3501 University Boulevard East in Adelphi, MD.

New academic proposals under consideration include programs at the University of Baltimore (B.A. in integrated arts; M.S. in global leadership) and Towson University (B.A./B.S. in middle school education; upper-division and post-baccalaureate certificates in human capital development).

The committee also will vote on programs at the University of Maryland, College Park (B.S. in middle school education); the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (B.A., minor, and upper division certificate in Asian studies); and UMUC (post-baccalaureate certificate in intellectual property, digitization and multi-media).

The mission statements from USM institutions and regional centers were prepared following guidelines offered in 2005 by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC). By Feb. 1, 2011, the statements will be submitted to MHEC for its review. In April 2011, the full Board of Regents will consider the statements for final adoption. All statements will require MHEC approval, as well.
