Kelly M. Schulz was named by Governor Larry Hogan to serve as Secretary of the Maryland Department of Commerce on December 17, 2018, taking office on January 1, 2019. Prior to that, she served as Secretary of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) and is also a former member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing Frederick County.

As a Delegate, she served on the Economic Matters Committee and-along with addressing local concerns-focused on financial, economic development, labor, and workforce issues. At DLLR, she expanded Maryland's apprenticeship program to more than 10,000 apprentices statewide and received national acclaim for the Employment Advancement Right Now (EARN) Maryland program. At Commerce, Secretary Schulz is a strong advocate for Maryland's job creator and workers, implementing Governor Hogan's signature "Maryland is Open for Business" initiative.

Secretary Schulz holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. A native of Warren, Michigan, Kelly currently lives in Frederick County with her husband John Nowell and has two sons, Brandon and Bradley.
