JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of moderately complex electronics support work applying various methods, techniques and procedures. This job is typically found in an academic support or research environment.


PRIMARY DUTIES


1. Operates, maintains, repairs, and tests electronics equipment.


2. Assembles, modifies, and installs equipment according to schematics and rough sketches.


3. Designs simple circuits with various components and assists in the design of complex components.


4. Writes a variety of special and recurring reports of projects.


5. Operates a variety of hand and power tools and specialized equipment such as oscilloscope, frequency counters and multimeters.


6. Performs specified mathematical computations using standard tables and formulae. Plots data or results and draws charts and graphs manually or using a computer.


7. Tests, calibrates, adjusts and repairs moderately complex electronic testing instruments to ensure operational readiness of equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE: Four years in non-professional technical work in electronics or an allied area.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

General knowledge of the basic principles of electronics and the basic materials, elements, or products in the area of specialization. General knowledge and skill in the application of basic principles of applied arithmetic, algebra, and trigonometry, and the system of measure applicable to the area of specialization; in operating equipment applicable to the job according to the standard safety practices; in reading and interpreting technical specifications and drawings; in setting up and calibrating instruments and preparing instruments for testing. Ability to fabricate and assemble electromechanical and structural components and equipment from drawings and specifications; to use a personal computer; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to follow oral and written instructions; to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools and supplies and/or exert force of to 50 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.

OTHER:

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job. Valid Maryland Non-commerical Class C or equivalent driver's licence may be required.
