JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, responsible for installing insulation materials in buildings and other structures to regulate temperature and sound containment. Responsible for the installing, repairing, and replacing insulation materials in buildings and other structures to enhance energy efficiency, regulate temperature, and reduce noise.


PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to determine the type and amount of insulation needed.
  • Select insulation materials according to the application and the desired performance.
  • Measure and cut insulation materials to fit around pipes, ducts, walls, and other structures.
  • Install insulation materials by stapling, gluing, wiring, or nailing them to surfaces.
  • Seal and finish insulation work to prevent air leaks and moisture accumulation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and use protective gear as required.
  • Clean up the work area and dispose of waste materials properly.
  • Communicate with supervisors and other employees to coordinate work and resolve any issues that may arise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience in construction, maintenance, or trade involving the installation, repair, or replacement of insulation materials.

OTHER:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of insulation materials, tools, and installation techniques.
  • Knowledge of construction and building codes related to insulation and energy efficiency.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety standards and proper handling of insulation materials.
  • Knowledge of measuring and cutting techniques for fitting insulation into various spaces.
  • Knowledge of methods to prevent moisture, air leakage, and sound transmission.
  • Skill in using hand tools and power tools for cutting, fitting, and securing insulation materials.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, and work orders.
  • Skill in identifying appropriate insulation materials for specific applications.
  • Skill in troubleshooting and repairing damaged or improperly installed insulation.
  • Skill in maintaining accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work safely in confined spaces, at heights, and under varying environmental conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and install insulation materials of varying sizes and weights.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete projects efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other trades.
  • Ability to recognize and resolve installation problems to ensure quality and compliance with standards.

OTHER:

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience, and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis, with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • This position requires on-site presence.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required on occasion.
  • This is designated as an essential service position.  The incumbent is expected to report to work as needed, including during building openings and closings, major transitions, emergencies, and inclement weather events (e.g., snow, rain/hailstorms, hurricanes).  Duties may also include general maintenance and clean-up activities.

Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job.  A non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license valid in the State of Maryland may be required.  Candidates selected for employment may be required to be trained to work with asbestos.
