JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of this Nonexempt Job Class is to comply with Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) regulations, for Fellows that do not meet the Exempt FLSA test.  That is, the Fellow position would have been Exempt, but is required to be Nonexempt because the weekly salary does not meet FLSA criteria established for the salary minimum threshold and/or the employee in the position will not be paid on a salary basis.

USE OF THIS JOB CLASS IS RESTRICTED TO FELLOW POSITIONS AT LESS THAN 100% FTE, CONTINGENT CATEGORY I AND CONTINGENT CATEGORY II, AS DETERMINED BY THE INSTITUTION, WHICH CAN NOT BE ACCOMMODATED IN AN EXISTING EXEMPT STATUS JOB CLASS DUE TO FLSA REGULATIONS.

The Fellow program is an innovative initiative, offering recent college graduates the opportunity to help develop the strategy and vision to position a project (research, scholarly, or study) from inception through completion.  It creates teams and collaborations that understand the discipline's direction.


PRIMARY DUTIES

As required by the institution for an already established comparable Fellow Job Classification.  The position would have been assigned to the comparable Fellow Job Classification, because of the FLSA regulation, it has to be designated as Nonexempt.

Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to top management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Post-Doctoral Fellow: A terminal degree in the respective discipline.

EXPERIENCE:

OTHER: Research Fellow: At least a bachelor

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Ability to maintain high standards with the work being performed and maintain awareness with trends and influences.

Assume personal responsibility for all outcomes; makes effective and timely decisions; and learns how to effectively use PC Applications, such as Microsoft Office, statistical systems, or other information technology. 

Maintain productivity and uses strategies to increase individual knowledge base.

Skill in exercising initiative, resourcefulness, and sound judgement with an ability to solve problems and make decisions.

Ability to prioritize ongoing and new projects necessary to implementing a specific organizational program. Skill in continuously seeking to improve the quality of services and processes.

Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts.  Writes and presents information in a clear and concise way.  Interprets and understands written information and is able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding. 

Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrates professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others.  Capable of interacting pleasantly and positively with other to meet customer expectations, and provide follow up with customers.
