USM Strategic 2010-2020 Planning Process

Meeting the changing and expanding educational needs of Maryland and our state's growing, increasingly diverse undergraduate, graduate, and professional student population;

Positioning Maryland as a national leader in science and technology, the arts and humanities, and the professions. Serving the public good by enhancing the quality of life of all Marylanders and advancing the state's economic growth, sustainable development, and international competitiveness;

Achieving national eminence in research, scholarship, teaching, and service;

Becoming widely recognized for the effective and efficient stewardship of our resources.

As the USM develops its new strategic plan, it is critical that the System assess progress under these overarching goals and identify the major challenges facing Maryland and its public higher education system during the decade leading to 2020. To help do this, the USM and its institutions will be putting together a series of white papers that explore key issues and challenges facing the USM over the next ten years. Links to working drafts of the white papers will be included below as they become available.

To gain greater stakeholder input into the planning process, the Board of Regents is asking anyone with suggestions for the new plan to share their ideas. Suggestions can be sent to afoster@usmd.edu. These suggestions will be considered by the Board and USM staff as the plan is developed.
